About the institute

 

 

Establishment of the Institute:

The Higher Institute of Marine Science Techniques in Sabratha was established by Resolution No. (651) of 1998 issued by the former People’s Committee for Vocational Training, as the first higher institute in Libya dedicated to qualifying technical personnel specialized in the maritime field. The maritime sector is considered one of the most important contributors to the national economy, serving as a source of national income and as an alternative to oil, upon which our country’s economy is almost entirely dependent.

 

Facilities of the Institute:

The Institute includes a number of administrative, financial, academic, and technical offices that work to organize workflow within the Institute in a systematic manner. It also contains (12) lecture halls, computer labs, a fisheries lab, and a marine biology lab. In addition, the Institute has workshops for blacksmithing, turning, air conditioning and refrigeration, and mechanics. The Institute also houses a scientific library containing a collection of general and specialized books in the maritime fields, in addition to two marine sites allocated for the Institute's use.
